Color Of Change: State Court Must Reinstate Warren Following Judge’s Ruling
Sakira Cook, vice president of Color Of Change, the nation’s largest online racial justice organization, issued the following statement in response to Judge Hinkle’s finding that DeSantis violated the state constitution
“Andrew Warren’s removal was a politically motivated, anti-democratic attack against a progressive prosecutor who was willing to carry out justice. Judge Hinkle recognized this by ruling that Gov. DeSantis violated the state constitution with the removal of Andrew Warren from office. It is disappointing that the judge did not believe he had the power as a federal judge to reinstate Warren. State courts must right this wrong and reinstate Warren immediately.
“Prosecutors are the last line of defense for justice, especially in this current climate when ring-wing zealots continue to criminalize those they were elected to represent. Warren’s pledge to not criminalize people for seeking out abortions demonstrated a true understanding of equity, morality, and fairness.
“Make no mistake — DeSantis’s decision disproportionately hurts the Black communities Andrew Warren was elected to serve. We continue our steadfast support of Andrew Warren, as well as progressive prosecutors across the country who are committed to transforming our deeply broken criminal legal system, and call on state courts to return Warren to office immediately.”
