COLOR OF CHANGE REACTS TO U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION LAUNCHING ‘END DEI’ PORTAL
NATIONAL – On Thursday, the United States Department of Education launched a public anti-diversity, education, and inclusion portal to attack teachers and students. This latest attack by the Trump Administration is a real threat to education programs – particularly for students of color and students with disabilities.
Portia Allen-Kyle, Interim Executive Director of Color Of Change issued the following statement:
“The ‘End DEI’ portal announced by the current administration is a dangerous escalation of ongoing attacks on education, civil rights, and racial justice that directly places Black people and people of color at risk of state-sanctioned harassment.
Calling on the public to report their neighbors is 21st century McCarthyism–weaponizing misinformation and fear to turn classrooms into battlegrounds for this administration’s neosegregationist culture wars. This effort to deputize anti-inclusion vigilantes will continue to fuel hysteria that will target educators and students, especially those who are Black or people of color, jeopardizing their ability to teach and learn free of harassment in schools.
These continued attacks on our public schools are appalling, but not surprising. Whether they are banning books or trying to rewrite Black people out of history, we should expect aspiring authoritarians to do authoritarian things. Education is the cornerstone of democracy and in a moment where we should be doubling down on our investments in our children’s futures, Color Of Change will continue to fight against the regressive headwinds on behalf of Black children and all children. Until justice is real.”
