COLOR OF CHANGE HOSTS FIRST WEEK OF ACTION TO COMMEMORATE JUNETEENTH AND DRIVE MEMBERS TO RECLAIM, RESTORE, AND INVEST IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY

NATIONAL During the week of June 16, Color Of Change, the nation’s largest online racial justice organization, will hold its first Juneteenth Week of Action: Reclaim, Restore, and Invest, a week of events in commemoration of Juneteenth. Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Children’s Defense Fund, and The SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective are partner organizations for the events. Each day will highlight issues that align with Color Of Change’s work and agenda, including economic justice, reproductive freedom, tech equity, digital safety, and more.

Color Of Change’s Juneteenth Week of Action includes the following:

  • Monday, June 16: “Money Monday,” featuring a text-a-thon urging Color Of Change members to tell their representatives to vote “no” on the current budget reconciliation bill that includes cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and other safety-net programs.
  • Tuesday, June 17: “The Reclaiming Roundtable:” a discussion and training on Black History and storytelling, hosted by Ernest Crimm III, Emmy-nominated producer and author of How Black History Can Save Your Life; Portia Allen-Kyle, Interim Executive Director of Color Of Change; and Yasmin-Imani McMorrin, Director of Education Equity of Children’s Defense Fund.
  • Wednesday, June 18: “Restoring Our Health,” a fireside chat to raise awareness about reproductive justice and healthcare access, hosted by Amanda Hollowell, Chief of Campaigns of Color Of Change; Reverend Iyalosa Estee Nena Dillard, Faith Coordinator of SisterSong; Kersha Deibel, Senior Advisor for Black Health Equity at Planned Parenthood Federation of America; and Bianca Mayes, MPH, CHES, National Director for Black Health Equity at Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
  • Thursday, June 19: Members are invited to “Rest and Invest,” by celebrating Juneteenth day with loved ones and supporting Black-owned, local businesses through their patronage and promotion.
  • Friday, June 20: Community training on Color Of Change’s “Black Tech Agenda: Advancing Equity and Reimagining Technology,” a report published in 2024 focused on reducing technology’s harm on Black communities.

More information about the events can be found here.

In preparation for Juneteenth Week of Action, Portia Allen-Kyle, Interim Executive Director of Color Of Change, issued the following statement:

“Juneteenth now marks a celebration of all Black people finally gaining access to their freedom through emancipation—and a testament to the fact that even when freedom is won, there will always be efforts to delay and obstruct it. Our Juneteenth Week of Action is an opportunity to engage our members in the history of Juneteenth and continue building our movement for Black liberation. We will continue to push back against the neo-segregationist agenda seeking to silence our voices, erase our history and erode our collective power. We will continue to fight for our people and our communities until justice is real.”
