COLOR OF CHANGE CONDEMNS HOUSE VOTE APPROVING RECONCILIATION BILL THAT WILL HARM BLACK FAMILIES FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE ULTRA-WEALTHY
NATIONAL – After U.S. Congressman Hakeem Jeffries held the floor for nearly nine hours, the House voted to approve Trump’s budget reconciliation plan in a vote 218-214. The bill proposes catastrophic cuts to Medicaid, SNAP/TANF, and more to secure the largest tax break ever recorded for billionaires and corporations.
Portia Allen-Kyle, Interim Executive Director of Color Of Change, issued the following statement:
“The bill passed by Congress chooses mass death and starvation to turn billionaires into trillionaires in a violation of every social contract of our democracy. These costs will be disproportionately shouldered by Black families and communities. The ripple effects of this bill will be felt by every American in every state, as no one will be left unscathed. But this devastating loss must serve as motivation to continue our pursuit of a world where everyone can have nice things–including food, healthcare, and housing. Color Of Change will continue its fight into the states, where policymakers will have to make critical decisions about where to allocate resources in the face of the Trump Administration turning its back on the American people.”
